“Everyone is always excited to see what fun new color and style trends start coming around in the spring of a new year and this year will not be a disappointment!

While the return of ombre hair is unavoidable, there will also be a few new twists on this look such as the reverse ombre and the dip dye. We have already seen the reverse ombre on a couple of big names like Jessica Simpson and Beyonce with light and bright on top down to darker shades underneath and Aveda’s Spring 2013 collection features a gorgeous dip dye.

Also, expect to see lot of color mixed in with the haircolor that we traditionally consider “natural”! This Spring we are seeing gorgeous pastels in blue, pink, teals, lavenders and a million shades of gorgeous grey. These fashion colors can be done done ombre style with color just at the tips, 20%- 30% highlighted or in large block sections,  like for instance a in bang or just a block coming from underneath your natural color.  However, on of the biggest trends for color is seeing full heads of pastels! The bright summery shades of platinum blond make a comeback as well! You can never go wrong with a perfect, gorgeous blonde. And the Aveda Spring 2013 collection shows off one of the most amazing blonde formulas that I have seen in a long time! So excited to do this color on some guests!

For styles this summer, the key this Spring is soft texture. Looks that don’t look overdone and texture that has a unique twist.  New curl and wave techniques using braids, twists and even gardening stakes (seriously its true!) create a whole new family of texture styles and can be easy to do even the night before. And once again this season we are seeing the braids, braids braids! Regular, fishtail, twist, waterfall and every other variation of the braid is seen in tons of looks this season. And don’t forget to load your drawers with hair accessories. Headbands, flowers, pins and barrettes all will be seen in excess this year.”

14 years ago Aveda began a search for hair coloring products made of natural ingredients that would provide users with fade-resistant color and optimal results. This revolutionary color line provided stylists with all natural ingredients that revolutionized hair coloring for professional stylists.

Our fabulous and talented Zandi K stylist, Riley Fedel, recently traveled to New York in order to be a part of the Aveda Team styling hair for the famous Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

“It was a great experience. I got to work in a fast paced environment and learn how to quickly execute many new looks… from avant garde buns to more commercial, flowing locks.”

Riley was fortunate to be able to work on several fashion shows in Manhattan that week.

“I helped with hair for the Academy of Art University, Leann Marshall, Stacy Sherri, Anna Francesca, Sunhee, and a couple more amazing designers.”

These fall fashion shows were previews for the Spring 2013 collections. The designers decide how they want the hair and makeup to best enhance their designs, and then translate that to the stylists who execute the looks. It is a high pressure and intense place to perform a look but exciting all the same!

“Some designers wanted to see all the hair into a tight bun or chignon, where some wanted to see the models hair set into a loose curl or deep wave. The hair was all so beautiful and fun to do. With the makeup, since the collections were for Spring, the makeup looks were mostly inspired by bright, airy Spring looks.”

“New York city is such a fun place and I was really sad to leave. I can’t wait to go back t the city for more seasons of Fashion Week or other work with hair or makeup…but couldn’t leave my hometown of Denver and all the lovely guests in my chair behind! I can’t wait to bring some of the amazing inspiration that I saw at New York Fashion Week back to my Denver guests!”

Join Nicki Wenz, National Aveda Makeup Artist, for our first of a series of evening makeup workshops. Make it a fun night for you and your friends or come and meet some new ones. Wine and Cheese will be served. A great way to start a night out!

In this first workshop you will learn and do, step by step, a very wearable day look great for any eye shape, color or complexion.
